For too long, our broken immigration and criminal justice systems have locked too many people out of the American dream. Founded by leaders in the technology and business communities, we seek to grow and galvanize political support to break through partisan gridlock and achieve meaningful reforms. Together, we can move America forward. We are seeking a resourceful, creative, and adaptable data fellow specializing in analysis and visualization for a paid, full-time fellowship supporting our federal immigration policy work. Specifically, we are looking for someone who can help ground our core arguments and principles in proven research, and analyze data to identify important trends and stories in immigration. This is an opportunity to learn how a dynamic policy and government affairs team operates in a fast-paced environment while supporting FWD.us' larger strategic goals. In this role, you will help us make the fact-based case for meaningful immigration reform, including defending Dreamers, establishing a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and building a legal immigration system fit for the 21st Century. Applicants must be available to work full-time on weekdays in our Washington, D.C. or San Francisco office for a 3-month period starting as soon as possible. Specifically, you will: Conduct self-guided research to curate, analyze, and present (through tables, charts, models, estimates, etc) immigration-related dataProduce visualizations of immigration data to inform and support policy products (e.g. charts, graphs, and infographics for blogs, position papers, reports, etc)Collect, analyze, and report on new data and research in the immigration policy space to the FPGR department and the rest of staffIdentify opportunities for using data to reinforce FWD.us's policy principles and to evaluate the impacts of policy proposals on diverse communitiesReceive hands-on education and experience about immigration policy and politics, including personalized coaching through the FWD.us Fellowship Program, direct training with FWD staff and leadership, and opportunities to learn from and collaborate with external partnersBasic Qualifications: Knowledgeable and passionate about FWD.us's mission and immigration reformFamiliarity with or interest in federal immigration data, policy, and the political processExtensive experience (in school or in the workplace) with data analysis and visualization, statistics, and researchExperience working with large, complex data sets, such as the Census and American Community Survey (ACS)Knowledge of a programming language (Python), a statistical software (R, SPSS, STATA, etc), data visualization tools (Tableau), and/or other higher level programming and data analysis tools, Excel required; graphic design experience a plusCreativity and resourcefulness, ability to conduct research to find appropriate data sourcesAble to translate complex concepts into accessible, understandable products for diverse audiences, conveying the big picture and topline messagesProven writing ability and strong organizational skills, with the ability to adapt to new conditions, assignments, and deadlinesEqual Opportunity Employment/Diversity We are an organization committed to making the world a better place for all people.
