2008.9.25 Thursday (BJ time):1. 1015 the TJ ? BJ airport bus set off from TJ (from Tian Huan Ke Yuan Zhan, RMB81, need ID card to register to enter BJ).2. 1230 arrived BJ air port Terminal 3 (Much shorter than it is said to be 2 hrs 45 mins). It will go to Terminal 2 later. Took one trolley at the entrance.3. Arrived E17-E23 Air Canada Desks, queuing for check-in (maybe 10 persons in front of me).4. 13:20 Check-in started (The 1640 BJ-Vancouver air flight is cancelled today)5. 13:50 my turn ? one 22.5kg suitcase (bigger than 158cm), one 10kg suitcase, OK. I have one 3kg backpack carried luggage with me. Both passport and CPR are needed at this time. I am worried about whether I will be fined for the bigger suitcase, it is 162cm when empty, and much bigger when it is full (soft suitcase). That is why I have the 2nd suitcase quite small, and light, in case I need to take it as carried luggage, then I could just have the big one shipped to avoid the fine.6. 14:00 finished, I moved forward.7. 1430 Head to Gate E by the train/express (need to show the boarding card to get there, no accompanying persons permitted, the train is under maintenance, and every 10mins, so better go to custom earlier.)8. 1450 got off the train, going through China Custom (need to show the passport, CPR).9. 1500 got to E30. The air plane is not here yet. Wait & rest, grabbed China Daily to kill time.10. 1705 start boarding on the air plane11. 1740 was notified that one passenger for immigration has not arrived yet, need to wait for a few mins, but as the journey will be 20mins shorter, it will be on time when it arrives Toronto.12. 1804 set off13. 1920 1st meal was served (dinner?) Two choices: pork or chicken.14. 2355 2nd meal was served (midnight snack?) Sandwich, two pieces of biscuits, some fruit, and small cup of instant noodle (chicken flavor)15. BJ time 26th Sept 0420 (shall be 1620 25th Sept Canadian time) the Canada Custom (enter) form is distributed16. 0500 3rd meal was served (breakfast) two choices: beef fried noodle, or egg roll During the time being in the journey, the air attendant people serving water around for a few times.17. Watched 3 movies on the way: Sex and City, Kong Fu Panda, and a Chinese one.18. BJ time 26th Sept 0610 (Canadian time 25th Sept 1810) started to decrease the flying height19. BJ time 26th Sept 0630 (Canadian time 25th Sept 1830) landed on the ground, keeping moving20. BJ time 26th Sept 0640 (Canadian time 25th Sept 1840) stop, and started to get off21. BJ time 26th Sept 0700 (Canadian time 25th Sept 1900) got downstairs, to the Canadian Custom Provided him the passport, the filled Canadian Entry Form & the CPR form. Was asked: Where are you from? How much money did you bring? Will there be goods followed up? Do you bring any food with you?It was quick, maybe because I bring enough funds for landing, did not ask me about how long I will stay.A story: when I queued there, I heard the people behind chatting in Japanese. When it was my turn to have the custom cleared, the Japanese woman took a picture with flash, which alarm the custom officers, who warning her stop shooting and deleting the picture. The female officer at the next desk (provide bilingual service) spoke to her in Chinese when they found the Japanese woman is no response to English. I stepped out and said “She is Japanese, not Chinese.”. So my officer asked her to step up, seeing she deleted the picture (with lots of difficult to make her understand, for she can not understand English so well.)When I finished my procedure, the officer asked me “How do you know she is Japanese?” hehehe….22. Turn left, head to Immigration. The Chinese lady asked me in English, about how much money I bring and ask me show her the bank draft. Also have I had any problem with police, the marital status, any kids, that’s all. Took me 5 mins at most, saying now you are the permanent resident.23. Keep going, at the entrance of immigration part, registered with the city I am going to, being given the material, such as how to rent a house, how to have the SIN card done, how to get job info etc. Gave me a big handbag to carry all these booklets. And saying keep going out, there will be another person register and give me more info.24. Collected some more booklets for the city I am going to. Then went downstairs.25. At No. 6, found out my luggage, it needs a coin of CAD2 to have a trolley.26. Exit: show the Canadian Entry form, and being asked to turn left, to have more exam. Some are asked to open the luggage. I am lucky, just being asked how much money I brought, then let me go, and took Canadian Entry Card from me.27. Get out the air port….. it is 50C to make the local phone call. Canadian time 26th Sept 2008 (Friday) 1. Went to the job centre at Missisauga (West)2. Register and have the number at the reception, telling her I am new immigrant and want to have a SIN card, was asked to show her my passport and CPR.3. Wait at the waiting area, to be called to go forward. There are 4 desks working and will announce Number what to Desk what.4. There are 5 in front of me, this job center will deal with SIN card, the senior, and anything relating to job. Have computers to access internet for job info, and telephones…. Not sure it is free to use or not.5. It is my turn in less than 10 mins. The lady is quite nice, asking me to write down both of my parents’ full name (and my mom’s used before marriage), my phone number and mail address in Canada to mail the SIN card. She input all these info into computer (no form is needed to be filled up), and stop and double check with me from time to time. She asked to me read the important notice at the desk, which tell you to keep your SIN card info safe and private. Finally she gave me a paper, printing my SIN number, and saying now I could start using it, when the SIN card is mailed to me (normally 5 working days, no more than 10 working days, after when if I fail to get it, could contact this job centre) this paper could be destroyed. And I could open a bank account with it now.6. Step out….. Everything I need to do in my short landing has been finished in 14 hrs after my landing on Canadian Toronto Pearson Airport J

回复: 25th Sept 2008 Landing Toronto Bank accounts ******29th Sept 2008 Monday Went to TD Canadian Trust to have my chequing and saving accounts opened. It is kind of different with Chinese bank for almost everything is charged, to order a cheque book, to do a transaction, no interest for the chequing account, low interest rate for saving account (for TD, 2.25% for CAD 5000+, nothing if less than that amount). Anyway, hard to get extra money from bank, maybe will lose more..... for using the service. For the bank draft I brought to Canada, because it is from China, it has to be hold for 30 to 42 days (for a Canadian bank draft, it is 5 days, for a US one, 15 days, and others 30 days at least) before I could use it. That is why the bank investment consultant suggested me having a saving account, at least I could get a few cents as interest before I could use it. I chose TD for my aunt is using it, and it is said as good service. The interest rate is kind of low. As I know, the saving account rate at HSBC is 3%. I have 4 cheques (temperary before I get my cheque book) and the debit card at once. I choose bank passbook instead of the statement for it is easier to see how it goes, of course I can change my mind in the future. With the passbook I have to update it in the branch. Well, after setting the pin for cheque account, I was given a temp pin for telephone banking, and another one for internet bank. Both need to be changed in 48 hrs by self. ******30th Sept 2008 Tuesday Went to the bank again, to have my credit card applied. I could have it done when I opened the accounts yesterday, but the bank consultant had an appointment with other customer so I chose to do it later. The Visa cards I could choose incl: 1.GM (return you points which could be accummulated and get discount when buy a GM car)2. Rebate (cash back, 0.5% for the first 3000CAD you used, and 1% for the beyond, annually)3. Green (nothing back, points or cash, but alliance with some insurance company, you may get double warrenty for the goods you buy with this card, damaged, or stolen) I choose Rebate. It needs 2 to 3 working days to get the visa card approval, when the bank consultant will call me, then another 5 to 10 working days to have the credit mailed to me. *****************************************That's all.........Still in Canada, so have to type in English ^-^

回复: 25th Sept 2008 Landing Toronto Good landing process! One question: Why did you open a bank account because you're for short landing? What's the purpose? From most people for short landing, it's not suggested to open bank account.点击展开... Yes, I notice that.1. you can clarify that your bank account is a non-tax one;2. I did not do that, for I think as my salary in China, which is not high enough to hand in tax.... and my relative here could do the tax report for me even I am not here. I took a bank draft as the Canadian Immigration requires for landing, to avoid any risk of being refused at the air port immigration. And I don't want to bring it back China, anyway, it will be used sooner or later. And that's why I open an account. And you need your SIN card number when apply for the bank account, which will take 5 to 10 working days to be mailed to you. But now, a paper will be given to you at once on which the number is printed. I suppose it is a improvement, it was not before. *****************I suppose open or not open a bank account are all acceptable. As I have relatives here who would like fill up the tax form for me here, I think it may be better to have a longer tax-record and credit (by credit card) for me.
