He says officers have been trying to prevent teens from falling into gang life, and once they visited local schools, students opened up fairly quickly."Their arms were down and they were thinking about what they had to say. We really tried not to talk down. These are young adults who are going to make some choices about their [lives] and we wanted to give them really solid, straight-forward information and encourage them to not do something that would ruin their lives."Rich says Abbotsford had eight deaths related to gang activity in 2009, a number he calls ridiculous for such a small community.
