1.AppleProfile HeadquartersCupertino, CaliforniaWebsitewww.apple.comTwitterAppStoreFor walking the talk ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer has a test to identify the alpha of the alphas among NFL quarterbacks: If four QBs are in the same car, who drives? In a mighty techmobile, Apple definitely has the keys--because where it goes, everyone follows. Siri may not have been introduced with a Jobsian public performance, but it dominated (and created) conversation ever since and prompted Amazon and Google to snap up rival Siri technologies. Think of it: They had to compete in a space Apple just created. And in some places, the followers can barely keep up. The camera on the iPhone 4S is so advanced that it alone would have cost $500 just a few years ago; iPads dominate the tablet market; Apple is winning in greater China (12% of fiscal 2011 revenue, 400% better than the previous year); and new CEO Tim Cook is reportedly bringing a more humane leadership style. Until someone outplays Apple, it’s the starter. Illustration by Peter Oumanski

回复: 全球最有创造力的50家企业2 FacebookProfileSlideshow HeadquartersMenlo Park, CaliforniaWebsitewww.facebook.comTwitterfacebookFor 800 million reasons to share By Fast Company StaffTechies talk of Zuckerberg’s law, which states that every year, the amount of information people willingly share will double. It’s rare for a single person--let alone someone so young, at age 27--to be credited with shaping a fundamental condition of our age. But the law isn’t just a human urge; it’s a response to Facebook’s widening, ever-inviting platform. This past year brought more sharing of music and news, and a timeline of users’ lives. More important are the leaked documents that indicate how lucrative all that sharing is: Facebook may be more profitable than Amazon, netting almost $1 billion off of more than $3 billion in revenue. Its success in display advertising will only intensify its rivalry with Google. We assign Facebook a few demerits for its habit of overreaching into users’ privacy, apologizing, and then only slightly rolling back the offending policy. But then again, Mark Zuckerberg knows we’ll all just accept it eventually. Illustration by Peter Oumanski

回复: 全球最有创造力的50家企业3 GoogleProfile HeadquartersMountain View, CAWebsitewww.google.comTwittergoogleFor expanding its hit lineupBy Fast Company StaffSince returning to the big office last spring, CEO Larry Page has created an executive brain trust--and now they’re transforming Google from a single product into a diversified web power. YouTube’s channel-centric makeover reimagines cable TV in an unlimited bandwidth world, Android helped partners sell more than 250 million phones last year (earning Google an estimated $4 billion in mobile ad sales), Chrome has surpassed Firefox as the second-most-popular web browser (to Microsoft’s), and Google+ continues to be integrated deeply into all of Google’s products. Yet, there’s cause for concern. The company is beset by accusations--some of which it’s had to acknowledge--of overzealously favoring its own products in its search results, moves that have attracted antitrust attention from Congress and the Justice Department. It begs the question: Can Google stop itself from becoming Microsoft? Illustration by Peter Oumanski

回复: 全球最有创造力的50家企业4.AmazonProfile HeadquartersSeattleWebsitewww.amazon.comTwitteramazonFor playing the long game By Fast Company StaffJeff Bezos’s bald pate, trim physique, signature cackle, and relatively rare public appearances all work to build mystique around Amazon’s founder and CEO. Last year, his new initiatives--including short-read Kindle "Singles"; Kindle Fire grabbing the No. 2 tablet slot; the rapid expansion of Quidsi from diapers and drugstore goods to pet supplies, toys, and groceries; and the expansion of Amazon’s streaming-video service to include CBS and Fox programming--burnished his visionary reputation. Bezos also suffered a few dings: Kindle Fire shipped with sluggish and buggy software; Amazon’s promotion of its Price Check app sparked a backlash; and its financials fell short of expectations. Unlike Apple, Amazon has yet to show it can profit off both hardware and media sales. Amazon’s deeper moves into tablets, book publishing, and streaming-media delivery are inspired. But right now, it’s the least alpha of the alphas.Illustration by Peter Oumanski

But in China, IM portal Tencent dominates. It has expanded to games, social networking, apps, and an open platform to encourage a Western-style app ecosystem. (It’s now pushing West, entering Apple’s App Store and buying California-based Riot Games.) It makes $1 billion a quarter, much of it through virtual-goods sales, and is now the world’s third-largest publicly traded Internet company. Jealous yet, AOL?Infographic by Nathan Bilancio
