This is a tenure-stream position for a theorist/composer with specialization in jazz and/or popular composition. Applications should include samples of work done in the field. Involvement with electronic technologies of composition and/or jazz history would be considered assets. While initial salary is to some extent negotiable, it should be understood that this is an ‘entry-level’ position, and has been budgeted accordingly. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of courses in music from first year to the MA level, to develop a portfolio of significant peer-reviewed compositions and/or publications, and supervise graduate students. Applicants must have a PhD, a strong commitment to scholarship reflected in publications, an active research profile and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Complete applications, including a curriculum vitae, sample composition and teaching dossier should be sent to Professor Bryan Gillingham, Director, School for Studies in Art and Culture, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, K1S 5B6. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent separately. Initial screening of applications will begin on May 1, 2008, and continue until the position is filled.
