Working under the direction of the Manager of Information Technology, in this full-time position, the Database/Helpdesk Technician’s role is to assist the Database Administrator as required and to ensure helpdesk tickets are resolved efficiently. This includes answering helpdesk inquiries, providing time estimates for resolution, resolving issues and following up with users. This person is also responsible for responding to user requests for information, providing end user training where required, and reporting helpdesk statistics when required. ResponsibilitiesStrategy & PlanningRecommend process improvements to the helpdesk and database reporting processes.Recommend system changes to improve customer service, security and lower IT departmental costs.Participate and contribute to departmental planning meetings.Acquisition & DeploymentConduct research on helpdesk and database products, services and standards in support of helpdesk and database procurement efforts.Assist with technology hardware and software deployments including servers, networking equipment, workstations, laptops and audio visual equipment.Operational ManagementManage helpdesk ticket queue.Respond and follow up on technical issues from staff, students and parents.Assist with audio visual presentations and setups.Work with Network Administrator to manage data security.Conduct periodic audits of classroom equipment and take corrective actions when necessary.Perform database system and security audits.Perform database backups and recovery.Position RequirementsEducation & CertificationCollege diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 2 years equivalent work experience.Knowledge & ExperienceWorking technical knowledge of T/SQL, SSIS, DTS, Filemaker, Access, Excel, Crystal Reports, SQL Reporting Server, XML, XSLTOperating system experience with Windows XP, 2000 Server, 2003 Server, Vista, 2008 Server and 7.Server system experience with Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Forefront and WSUS.Office productivity experience with Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010, Deepfreeze and FirstclassNetwork trouble shooting experience with VLANs, Wireless Networking and firewalls. Database experience working with SQL 2005, SQL 2008, Microsoft Point of Sale, Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, Blackboard, Trevlac, SynreVoice and DestinyWorking technical knowledge of database management standardsHands-on experience with database reverse engineering and data integrity checking.Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.Personal AttributesStrong written and oral communications skills.Strong interpersonal skills.Ability to conduct research into issues and products as required.Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language.Highly self-motivated and directed with a proven record of initiating positive changes.Keen attention to detail.Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.Strong customer service orientation.Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.Willingness to learn evolving technologies to meet evolving school needs.Work ConditionsOn-call availability for 6 days per month.Sitting for extended periods of time.Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals Branksome Hall offers a challenging and stimulating working environment and a competitive compensation package.
