据朋友说，十多年前他到cityhall去办事，见过一张50年前的旧照片，照的是grandville桥，还是现在这个桥，不过现在被加固了，当时这座桥两岸在一片汪洋中，RICHMOND只露出几个电线杆。忘了问是洪水还是什么原因造成的。

The Fraser Valley and other parts of the Fraser Basin have experienced two major floods of record, the largest in1894 and the second largest in 1948. Scientists predict that there is a one-in-three chance that a flood of similar magnitude will occur within the next 50 years. Over 300,000 people now live in the Lower Fraser River floodplain. A major flood today would result in severe social, economic and environmental impacts. These include risk of injury and loss of life, billions of dollars in damage to private and public property, temporary loss of infrastructure and community services, disruption of business and trade, degradation of water quality and harmful impacts on fish and wildlife habitat. By the time the flood waters receded a month later, 16,000 people had been evacuated, damages totaled $20 million.

Areas along the James west of Richmond and east of the Blue Ridge Mountains received massive amounts of rainfall that exceeded the rains of Hurricane Camille three years prior. The river experienced five-hundred year flooding levels, inundating downtown Richmond and causing millions of dollars in damages.
