New Year’s Eve at the WaldorfWhen: 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Where: Waldorf Hotel, 1489 East Hastings St.Known for legendary Halloween parties, the Waldorf is stepping up its New Year’s Eve game. With indoor figure skating, magicians, psychics and David Lynch-esque musical stylings, this hotel-wide bash is sure to be a unique East Vancouver experience. Buzzworthy producer Blood Diamonds and a surprise guest will perform live on the cabaret stage. Dinner by Ernesto Kut Gomez and Cesar de la Parra available with reservation. Tickets $60 and up. Solid NYE with TiestoWhen: 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. Where: Pacific Coliseum, 100 North Renfrew St.Having played to crowds as large as 250,000 all over the world, the 5,000-capacity stadium may feel like an intimate affair for DJ Tiesto. Open to all ages, the night promises unstoppable beats and the most trance-inducing light show this side of Ibiza. Tickets $180 and up. NYE 2012When: 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.Where: Telus World of Science, 1455 Quebec St. Why not ring in the New Year inside a gigantic glittering ball filled with a thousand of your closest friends? Overlooking False Creek and the Olympic Village, the two-floor semi-formal celebration will pump out house, hip-hop and top 40 mashups courtesy of Dirty Radio and Johnny Omega. Five stocked bars and a free midnight toast will ensure prolonged social lubrication. $100 and up. Pride of Vancouver CruiseWhen: 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Where: 450 Denman St.If high society is your target, look no further than Vancouver’s skyline seen from glittering ocean waters. Includes a gourmet buffet, live entertainment, dancing, a midnight fireworks show and complimentary champagne. Tickets are $147.50 each or $295 for couples. Current Swell at the VogueWhen: 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.Where: The Vogue Theatre Recent winners of the Peak Performance Project (and a $100,500 cash prize), Victoria’s Current Swell will headline a New Year’s show with guests the Boom Booms and Ryan Guldemond. Come prepared for a long set of smiley alt-country plucked fresh from their new record. Tickets $35 and up. New Year’s Eve at the ChapelWhen: 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Where: Chapel Arts, 304 DunlevyAs far as undiscovered gems go, the Chapel may top the list of Vancouver’s underrated hot spots this year. Predicting 2012 will be the last New Year’s Eve of all time, the space is planning for an apocalyptic blowout. Spread over two modest-sized floors, DJs will spin a mix of party jams and tech house. $50 and up. One Night Stand IVWhen: 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.Where: Media Club, 695 Cambie St. An intimate indie affair, perfect for musical locavores. Vancouver darling Hannah Georgas will play nostalgic cover songs from five decades alongside members of Mother Mother, Brasstronaut, Siskyou and Rococode. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Shangri-La Hotel NYE GalaWhen: 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Where: Shangri-La Hotel, 1128 West Georgia St.Like last year, Vancouver’s sky-high, five-star hotel boasts a real-time visual countdown clock, canapés courtesy of Jean-Georges of Market restaurant and a complimentary glass of midnight bubbly. If the mandatory formal dress code doesn’t keep all the riff-raff out, the 23-plus gents and 21-plus ladies age restriction surely will. DJs Stimulant J and C-Styles will be playing house, top 40, dance, R&B and ‘90s, party anthems. Sold out in November, but a few refunded tickets still available for $180. Once Upon a Time at CelebritiesWhen: 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.Where: Celebrities Nightclub, 1022 Davie St. Vancouver’s largest gay New Year’s Eve party is guaranteed to stay packed to capacity well into the wee hours. House of Celebs go-go dancers will take revellers on a fairy tale adventure while DJs Drew and Zach Shore supply the non-stop fabulous tunes. You CANWhen: 7p.m. Where: Red Card Sports Bar, 900 Seymour St.For those who enjoy partying for a cause, or simply can’t miss the Canucks play the Kings, Red Card has the best game in town. Sold out. Fairmont Waterfront New Year’s BallWhen: 8 p.m. Where: The Fairmont Hotel, 900 Canada Place WayCelebrating 20 years and a just-completed 24,000 square foot makeover, the Fairmont has the upscale mature market cornered. With a 25-plus age restriction, gourmet canapés, champagne and Cirque performers, exclusivity never quite felt so inviting. $140 and up. Ceili’s House Party 2012 When: 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.Where: Ceili’s Downtown, 670 Smithe St. Dressing fancy is not for everybody. Sneakers and T-shirts welcome at Ceili’s come-as-you-are Irish social. Midnight champagne and buffet for $40. SocietyWhen: 9:30 p.m. Where: Society, 1257 Hamilton St.See local hip-hopper Kyprios of Sweatshop Union bring down the house after an à la carte dinner service available between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $85, includes limited open bar and canapés. The BiminiWhen: 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.Where: The Bimini Public House, 2010 West Fourth Ave. After four years of renovation, the Bimini in Kitsilano has opened its doors just in time for the ball to drop. DJ Relly Rels will be spinning indie, dance and chart-toppers well past the countdown. Tickets are $40, plus $15 if you stay late. LamplighterWhen: 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. Where: The Lamplighter Public House, 92 Water St.One of the Donnelly Group’s flagship clubs tucked in Gastown’s historic Dominion Grand Hotel. Free bubbly when the ball drops, hosted by Richie Hendo. $40. New Year’s Eve Club CrawlWhen: 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.Where: Roxy Nightclub, 932 Granville St. If you’re on board with party buses and Mardi Gras beads, start your night at the Roxy and hop over to the Shark Club and Blarney Stone without lining up or paying cover. The ride is half the fun. $30 and up.
