[FONT="]Job Search Strategies and Coaching for Internationally Educated Professionals (IEP’s)[/FONT] [FONT="]A joint pilot program of APEGGA and MultiCultural Business Solutions[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]Are you an Internationally Educated Professional? Are you looking for employment as an engineer or as a geoscientist? Did you work in your field in the last three years? If you have experienced the following, this pilot program may be for you:[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]You have sent several hundred resumes but did not get any response[/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]Interviewers tell you either that you are overqualified, that you lack Canadian experience, that “we like your experience, but we need someone who has a license” or that they found a more qualified candidate[/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]Your networking or volunteering efforts do not seem to yield any result[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]This free program is designed to teach you how to adapt your job search strategy to the Canadian labour market so that the time you spend on your job search yields results. Based on the successful experience of many other IEP’s, it will help you understand:[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]How Canadian recruiters evaluate resumes[/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]How you can communicate your experience overseas so that you generate a positive response in Canadian recruiters[/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]How you can maximize the effectiveness of your networking and volunteering efforts[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]This program draws on the experience of Dr. Lionel Laroche, P.Eng. and his research on IEP’s and the challenges they face when looking for work in their field. Over the past 11 years, Lionel has coached and trained over 1,000 people who have come to Canada for professional reasons, either as IEP’s or expatriates, and helped them integrate into the Canadian work force effectively. Lionel has been teaching courses on behalf of APEGGA for the past three years; he has been interviewed by several radio stations, including CBC, on the approaches that immigrants can use to find meaningful work. He has written two books:[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]“Managing cultural diversity in technical professions”[/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]“Recruiting, retaining and promoting culturally different employees”[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]For more information on MultiCultural Business Solutions and Lionel Laroche, please go to [/FONT][FONT="]www.mcbsol.com[/FONT][FONT="].[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]By participating in this program, you will:[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]Create a solid generic resume and cover letter[/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]Learn how to customize them for each job posting you apply[/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]Create a job search strategy that focuses on the organizations that are most likely to need your skills[/FONT] ・[FONT="] [/FONT][FONT="]Learn how to network and volunteer in a strategic manner[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]This pilot program will unfold in the following manner:[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]Step 1:[/FONT][FONT="] Please send your resume and a cover letter explaining your situation to [/FONT][FONT="][email protected][/FONT][FONT="] by January 22, 2010.[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]Step 2:[/FONT][FONT="] We will email you two questionnaires to complete, the Organization and Culture QuestionnaireTM and the Cultural Effectiveness QuestionnaireTM. We will ask you to return both completed questionnaires by email within 48 hours. All applicants will receive a report that compares their scores and responses to the distribution of scores and responses of Canadian professionals.[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]Step 3:[/FONT][FONT="] We will select 25 participants for this program in Calgary and 25 in Edmonton, for a total of 50 participants. We will advise you of the result of your application by February 1 for Calgary applicants and February 5 for Edmonton applicants.[/FONT] [FONT="] [/FONT] [FONT="]Step 4:[/FONT][FONT="] The program combines a one-day training course and three coaching sessions. The training course and coaching sessions will take place on different dates in Calgary and Edmonton ? please refer to the following table for details. Please note that it will not be possible to reschedule the training course and the first coaching session.
