Economic Sectors: Petrochemical and Refined Petroleum ProductsSarnia-Lambton is an internationally significant centre for industrial-chemical industries, and home to many well-known multinational firms, including: BP Energy, LANXESS, Dow Chemical, Invista, Exxon (through its Canadian affiliate Imperial Oil Limited), Basell, NOVA, Shell and Suncor. What we offer Sarnia-Lambton extends many advantages to chemical companies: major pipelines bring crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids, ethane and ethylene to the region; a further network of pipelines facilitates transfer of intermediate feedstocks and raw materials from one company to another. Vast underground salt caverns allow for the storage of significant volumes of products. The St. Clair River provides cooling and process water and serves as a link to the St. Lawrence Seaway. Companies in the chemical industry also enjoy immediate access to the raw materials needed for manufacturing automotive parts, rubber-based products, extruded plastics, secondary and specialty chemicals, insulation, synthetics and many other products. Finally, Sarnia-Lambton boasts an extensive infrastructure for supporting the construction and maintenance of major capital projects-with a proven history of successfully building chemical plants in excess of $1 billion.
