Hi all - I tried to buy some cosmetics from Ali Xpress - Am I right in thinking theyv had some sort of falling out with paypal or something because I asked the supplier if they would accept it and when it came to paying it wasnt an option and they tried to get me to pay outside of Ali-Xpress. I didn't but I would like to buy something similar - anyone know if there are any trustworthy sources that accept paypal (i just like all my stock to be bought from my paypal funds iv earned and im also nervous about giving out my card details) - Anybody have any recommendations? Thanks all. ..Girlskissass,
There are many Chinese sources who accept PayPal.
Like buying here from someone not an advertiser, buying on ebay or wherever when they suggest you pay outside the ebay/paypal setup, etc. be wary of anyone who sucks you in one way and then tries or forces you to pay in another fashion.
I can't tell you about cosmetics, just in general, beware anytime you are dealing with a new potential source and they start modifying things once they attract your interest.
Yes it totally put me off - they replied to say yes they could accept paypal and so i made the order and went to pay and that's when they tried to alter things - I just walked away. So who am I left with, Global Sources, somebody like that?
It's not Alibaba or Global Sources, it's the individual sellers. You can use either to get to the actual supplier and see what payments they will accept.
In general, few true factories will not take PayPal, but 90% of the "factories" on these sites are no more manufacturers than you or I. They are traders (and scammers) sucking you in by claiming to be factories.
I believe that some of them are just out there and go and buy the products from factories once you make the order which i guess is OK as long as they can get hold of what you've ordered - I need to find out how to verify an individual seller - I have bought some info on how to do it from a member on here so must go back to it and refresh myself

Well, maybe you should learn some basic reading skills. I wrote traders and scammers. I did not write scamming traders. They are mutually exclusive, there are traders, there are scammers and 10% of those advertising on Alibaba MAY be legitimate factories. So, let's become a little more specific, 10% are true manufacturers, let's say 50 to even 60% are honest traders of one sort or another - middlemen between the factory and the buyer outside the country - and then there are the out and out crooks and scammers, maybe 25 to 30%.
But even the "honest traders" are dishonest. They may be honest in their day to day dealings, but they are often dishonest because in order to suck in foreign buyers they claim to be factories. You will find very few listings as just traders. They are all factories / agents / traders. But they are stretching the "factory" part. They are, in fact, misrepresenting themselves. You don't see where that's a big thing. Most Chinese don't. Most forum members do.
Being less than forthright, not volunteering bad news, bending the facts a bit, claiming to be what you are not seem to be normal business practices in China. And when caught "Sorry." and a smile are all that is required to put it behind and move on.
As far as advertisers here, there have been a number of cases where people have lost money dealing with members here, both legitimate advertisers and those selling by email and PM. It's always up to the buyer to investigate.
I never claim to be perfect. But I am trusted and I am dependable. That there may be a few who disagree does not make me a scammer, it makes me what I am, someone they can safely give their money to and goods or services in return. Members of this forum have spent over $1,000,000 with me over the years and no one yet says I screwed them out of their money. Whether every single customer will be happy when the transaction is over is something else, but I do give them value for their money. If DHL or RM lose the package, they are not happy with me, but it is not anything I can control. I got their money, they got the product (maybe late, or it didn't work, but they got it. And I make it right if it was wrong.) that makes me trustworthy and dependable.
Slow down a bit and read what I wrote. Traders and scammers. Not traders are scammers. Not scamming traders. Some traders, some scammers, and I'm sure some who a bit of both.
No, you can take that as a confirmation I have other things to do.
I believe they will ship the parcel to you
On Alibaba it normally states wether they accept PayPal. If it states they accept PayPal then they try and make you pay another way just be adament you can only pay with PayPal. If they still won't allow it then I wouldn't risk it.
I've found several good suppliers on Alibaba who accept PayPal. Originally they said they were factories but after trading with them for a bit I noticed a few skewiff things and confronted them to ask if they were sourcing agents.
They admitted to being sourcing agents and I still use them. The service they provide is excellent and I normally have my products delivered in 3 - 5 days! I can still make a profit on the price they offer me, so everyone is happy .
if you will pay for additional 6.4%(3.9+2.5) paypal fee
paypal is an option

You might be interested in the fact that "Paypal" does not offer payment protection on international transactions in most cases, and hence its exactly the safest mode of payment, although it does offer convenience.
as far as i known, all the online shopping sites from china support paypal.

Hi,
You really hit the point.
if you are big wholesalers, and who only want to trade with factories, then can just go to the canton fair.
Many factories will not accept PayPal, they only like Bank Wire(TT), L/C etc.
But if you are not big wholesalers, and only can search suppliers on internet, and only feel safe to pay by Paypal for your orders, then why you care that your supplies are factories or NOT?
My two cents.

Interesting discussion here about dealing directly with factories or foreign traders. As a foreign trader, with some experience of both buying from and selling to China, I can appreciate everyones frustration over this matter.
My company prefers to work directly with a manufacturer, but as has been pointed out, a better deal and service can often come through a trading company. Some manufacturers never sell direct.
We regularly use Chinese traders, who have given us excellent service over the years. Yes, there are some bad ones out there and many business travellers to China will have been fooled when being taken around a factory that actually belongs to an entirely different organisation.
If you do not speak Chinese, or work through a reliable partner who knows the system, many of you will waste your time even trying to authenticate the truth. Don't imagine that a trip to China will make everything alright! The bad boys will just regard you as a "goose, ripe for plucking". They will promise you the earth, wine you, dine you and then bleed you dry.
The skill is in identifying the good boys. That is where we come in.
My Chinese customers, who use our services to buy a range of Western produced food products, probably resent working through us. The Chinese are even more adverse to using traders than we are in Europe.
But they soon come to appreciate our negotiating skills, high level of service, ability to solve problems, knowledge of the complex paperwork required and experience of the product.
Over the years, we have formed strong relationships and friendships with many Chinese companies who could probably go it alone now, but who prefer to have a knowledgeable "middleman" doing all the tedious work. We prefer to call ourselves 'consultants" as the label of foreign trader has so many negative connotations.
But whatever people might want to call us, we must be doing something right, as our portfolio of customers is growing and we have some extremely large companies, both in China and Europe who regularly use our services, for a wide range of products such as olive oil to titanium castings.
Very few manufacturers will accept Paypal. It will be through TT payments, or LC. If you make payments through your high street bank, expect to lose quite a bit in commissions. There are many specialist companies that can help, who charge very little.
Western Union is a payment method I would advise against using.

Interesting. In my experience few true factories will accept PayPal. Most true factories (not just relating to electronic products) are selling in large quantities and it is not a cost effective way for them to operate.
Hmm, I have a trade/sourcing company listed on Alibaba. I suppose I should be grateful, someone else suggested there is a 95% chance I am a scammer. Now its down to 90%. (I've never really understood what is the difference between a trading company and sourcing company. Certainly the people I deal with don't distinguish between the 2.)
I agree, there are a large number of traders listed on sites like Alibaba, Global Sources and Aliexpress etc. but to suggest they are scammers is nonsense.
Its no different from saying you are a trusted and dependable dropshipper when there is no doubt at least some customers who would not agree with that statement. If you don't have 100% customer satisfaction rate then does that mean you are a scammer because what you say is not true??
If a trading company tries to pass themself off as a manufacturer then fair enough I have a problem with this too, but there are many where they do not do this. Sometimes it is just assumed this is the case. And sometimes it is because the manufacturer has a seperate trading company to do their exporting. There are many different possibilities.
I don't know why it is such a big deal anyway whether its a manufacturer or a trader. In my opinion, sometimes it is better to use a trader because there are services that a trader will normally provide that a factory cannot or will not. (Even on your website you mention you are native english speakers which you obviously see as a benefit). The perception is that a trader will rip you off in price compared to the factory. Well, quite often a trader may actually get you a better price, through their experience and network etc. You must believe there is a benefit for using a trading company, otherwise why don't you just list all your factory suppliers on your website and tell your customers to go directly there. No, thats right you are a trader trying to earn a living.
To give you an example, if you source a product direct from the factory and it is say USD 20.00 and the communicaiton was slow and poor and hard to understand, and then you got a quote from a trading company where the quote was also USD 20.00 (including the traders commission) but the communication was good, who would you prefer to deal with??? (All other things being equal.)
I am sure I will be told if I am wrong, but it seems to me that many of the businesses on this site revolve around the ebay, dropshipping type of business. Things like sourcing small quantities, dropshipping etc. Many of the items that are dealt with are the more popular types of products sold on those platforms, like branded products, electronics etc.
Therefore many of the comments made relate more to those types of products and business lines. I am certainly not suggesting anything negative about this. But the problem is that when people make generalisations, it may well relate to their own area of influence, but does not necessarily reflect the overall position.
For example, if I am a buyer looking for suppliers on Alibaba to buy 5 iphones, then that is slightly different from another buyer looking to buy a container load of unbranded umbrellas. For a start, there are limited manufacturers of the phone compared to the umbrella so you would expect more traders to be involved, and also you would expect more scammers to be operating with the phones rather than the umbrellas. So the probablility of being scammed when looking for iphones is, in my mind, considerably more than the guy looking for the umbrellas.
Or is making these types of generalisations simply a case of creating a perception (like Alibaba or Global Sources do) that only advertisers on this site are trustworthy.

The fact is that there are many that do not accept Paypal and some that say they do but when you order they say they no longer accept Paypal and want you to use TT or Western Union or Moneygram and then they get the money and you can not contact them because they will no longer answer the phone and will no longer answer your emails. They are scam artists.
You are correct that there is a higher probability of being scammed if you want the items that are hot sellers and the question is are there any trust worthy sources not trust worthy factories. I would have no problem with a trustworthy middleman.
Many online stores accept Paypal, Paypal has office in China.
I think you can pay via PayPal if you go through sites like Alibaba or DHgate.
Most of those sites ask more for the product than you can buy them for on eBay so I do not consider them wholesale. There are some who will sell at a wholesale price but mostly not on alibaba or dhgate, one must look long and hard to find a good supplier at wholesale prices.
