Mongolia Hong Kong company Kiu Hung Energy is set to acquire Mongolia coal explorer HMC , which holds three exploration licenses in the Khovd province of Mongolia, for HKD$1B-1.4B (US$129M-180M). The tenements house coking and thermal coal reserves of about 360Mt.Colombia Construction is set to begin on a 12Mtpa coal port on Colombia's Caribbean coast in Dibulla. The US$140M port is scheduled to begin operating in 2Q 2011 and will be able to accommodate two panamax vessels simultaneously.
Freiget The dry bulk market continued to fall in the week before Chinese New Year. Average earnings for Capesize vessels fell $2,240/day(-7%) to a five -month low of $29,649/day over the week. The beginning of the week saw a steady increase in rates reaching a peak of $32,322/day, before falling to the week's low on Thursday of $29,259/day. Transatlantic round voyage earnings fell by $1,500/day over the week to $33,500/day and front haul earnings fell by $6,000/day w-o-w to $45,000. Average Panamax earnings fell $894/day to a two month low of $24,384/day. In the Pacific market, earnings for a transpacific round voyage fell by $121/day week-on-week to $23,496/day.
