加拿大华人论坛 加拿大百科Chinese Spies in the U.S
在加拿大
Tonight, I went to a free English lecture in Panyu, the south of Guangzhou. The lecturer is an American guy named Roger. During the break of the event, I had a conversation with Roger. After talking something about water fountain in China, I turned the topic to the 'agent gate' or 'spy gate', which is a hot scandle in the U.S these days. It seemed Roger know nothing about this news, then he began to say something about Chinese spies in his country. He said there are a lot of Chinese spies with student visas who become disappeared immediately after landing and trying to steal military secrets of the U.S force. Normally they will be executed if they got caught. I told him that, basically, there has been a well-known rule that government won't execute caught spies, they just keep the guy and wait for the exchange because all countries do this sort of things and they have their own spies got caught in other countries. Roger said that was in cold war. After cold war, the U.S government doesn't do this anymore, they can't stand this situation and they have changed their opinion because spying military secrets is a sort of war behavior against the U.S! Then we began to discuss how to guarantee that the accused would have fair judgement when s/he was caught and sued to a military court by the federal government. The fact is, the guy will have a lawer, but no fair judgement is guaranteed. Well, we all know spy is not a good job, although might be exciting. Anyhow, since all countries do the same thing, how the U.S gov could consider spy is some sort of war behavior to the U.S? And how could the court execute those spies instead of putting them into a jail and waiting for the exchange of agents, which has been a tranditional practise and common sense in this thousands-year old industry?
