觉得这篇文章的遣词造句有很多可取之处 Chinese soccer commentator rips into AustraliaWho says there is no free speech in China? In fact you can be as biased and insulting to pretty much anyone you want as long as it's not the oppressive and more often than not inhumane Communist regime. The commentary by the broadcaster for national Chinese television calling the Australia versus Italy match is a perfect example. As in several countries around the world, the World Cup is a huge deal in China. Many men are having a tough time making that early morning meeting following a big match overnight. Some foreign firms are giving their employees the day off after their team plays overnight. Millions of people were glued to their set when Cinderella story Australia took on international soccer Goliath Italy. I imagine visiting Australian Prime Minister John Howard was too. That's what made commentator Huang Jianxiang's comments so appalling. As Italy scored via a questionable last-minute free kick, Huang shouted "Long Live Italy! I don't like team Australia!" The 38-year-old Huang shouted himself hoarse after Italian defender Fabio Grosso went down in a heap over Aussie Lucas Neill's challenge in the Australian box and continued screaming about Italy's soccer supremacy as Francesco Totti popped in his penalty shot. "It was an undisputed penalty," shouted Huang. "Grosso made it! He made it! Don't give Australia any chance! Great Italian left defender. Grosso alone represents the long and deep tradition of Italian soccer. He is not fighting alone." He didn't stop there. "Totti! He is about to take the shot. He shoulders the expectations of the whole world. It's a goal! Game over! Italy didn't fall to Hiddink's team this time! (Guus Hiddink coached South Korea to victory to oust Italy in the 2002 World Cup.) Long live Italy!" Huang then turned his venom to the Australian team. "Go home! But they don't need to fly back to Australia, which is too far away. Most of them live in Europe. Bye-bye." Unbelievably, Huang was unrepentant for his controversial comments in the post-game satellite linkup with the Beijing. "I am a human being, not a machine, and I can't be impartial all the time," he said. "Australia reminded me of a lousy team which eliminated China in the World Cup qualifiers in 1981. Australia is just like New Zealand team that beat us in 1981." He was not finished there either. His next comments perhaps spoke to the underlying issue that Huang doesn't like the idea of a strong Australian team playing against a relatively weak Chinese team. "Australia (which has joined the Asian Football Confederation) now will fight for an Asian World Cup berth and it may not be good enough to handle South Korea and Japan. But it will very likely take advantage of the Chinese team. So I don't like it." Beijing newsroom host Zhang Bin tried several times to stop Huang from spouting further damaging remarks, but Huang ranted until the linkup was severed. This is not the first time a Chinese soccer commentator has shown bias toward one team or another. In the 2002 World Cup, CCTV hostess Sheng Bin shocked the nation as she openly wept at Argentina's early exit. Following the match, Chinese chat rooms were flooded with opinions both pro and con over Huang's comments. One netizen on Xinhuanet.com posted his disgust with Huang. "Biased and crazy as he is, Huang Jianxiang has to quit as a soccer show host." But nearly half of the people online supported his biased comments. The debate continues to rage in the papers and over the internet. People seem fairly polarized over Huang's comments. A colleague of mine was asking me if I really thought he stepped over the line. I told her yes, and I was shocked that she did not have the same opinion, considering she is a journalist. The critics must have gotten through to Huang as he did apologize a day later. "After reviewing the match the next morning, I feel my comments contained too many personal feelings, which was not proper. I sincerely apologize to the audience for upsetting them," Huang said in a letter published on the China Central Television (CCTV) website. He admitted that his performance was not befitting a sports commentator and pledged to "balance sense and sensibility" so as to remain fair and impartial. I have no idea how much the fact Australian Prime Minister John Howard's presence in China had to do with Huang's apology but I imagine it had something to do with it. The Communist government does not like losing face and this was a pretty big slap in theirs.
