在加拿大

秋风送爽,两节临近。闲暇之余不妨装点小家,让生活的环境更加温馨写意。 Home Decoration 家装对话要记牢 There are more varieties of furniture than there used to be, a wider choice of paint, different types of lamps to choose from and so on. We can do all sorts of different things to make our homes more pleasant. Mrs Wilson就是一个想把家打扮得漂漂亮亮的人。现在,她打电话给装修工Mr Brogan。仔细看两人的对话,然后想想需要Brogan先生做的事情。 Mrs Wilson:Oh hello, Mr Brogan. I'm glad you could come today, as I would like this work done as quickly as possible.Mr Brogan:Well, I've just finished a big job on the other side of town, so I'm all yours now, ready to start when you want.Mrs Wilson:Wonderful. Now if I tell you what I have in mind, then perhaps you could work out how long it would take and what it would cost.Mr Brogan:Right, that's fine.Mrs Wilson:Well, let's start with the hall, as we're in it, shall we?Mr Brogan:It looks in quite good condition.Mrs Wilson:Well, yes, it was decorated only a few years ago. But what I really want is for all the doors to be painted. You can see the paintwork has got quite chipped.Mr Brogan:Right. Do you want them done in the same shade of white?Mrs Wilson:Oh, yes, I think so. Well, that's all here really, so let's go to the kitchen, shall we?Mr Brogan:Oo...there's a fair bit of work needs doing here, isn't there?Mrs Wilson:Exactly. It hasn't been modernised at all. What I'd like is for new cupboard units to be built. Both the lower ones around the cooker and sink, and the upper ones on the wall for holding crockery and glasses.Mr Brogan:Yes, I see.Mrs Wilson:Now I have some designs here that I would like copied.Mr Brogan:Ah, let me see. Oh yes, that should be no problem. I see you have a nice new cooker.Mrs Wilson:Yes, I bought that last month. I'd like the cupboards to be built around it at the same height. There's also a new sink with draining boards, that the plumber installed last week with a new washing machine.Mr Brogan:Yes, I'll have to measure the walls and the appliances carefully to make sure the cupboards are fitted correctly, then I'll get the wood and start making the cupboards for you. Anything else here?Mrs Wilson:Yes, when you've finished the cupboards, I'd like the wall above them to be tiled. I've chosen the tiles I want. And then the rest of the walls and the ceiling to be painted. I've chosen a paint that matches the tiles.Mr Brogan:I see. That's fine. You give me the name and exact colour of the paint and the tiles you want and I'll buy them for you. I get quite a good discount from the DIY shop in London Road.Mrs Wilson:Oh, that's marvellous.Mr Brogan:What about the floor?Mrs Wilson:Oh yes, I'm going to have it covered with linoleum, but you don't need to worry about that as I'm buying it from Marshalls, and they'll send someone to cut it to size and fit it, when you've finished the cupboards.Mr Brogan:Oh yes, they're very good. Very reliable.Mrs Wilson:Yes, so I've heard. Well, shall we go on to the bathroom?Mr Brogan:Right you are.Mrs Wilson:I don't think I need to replace the bath and the washbasin as they are in such good condition. They're over thirty years old, you know!Mr Brogan:Oh, yes, they used to make them well in those days. Made to last!Mrs Wilson:What I would like is for the walls around the bath and shower to be tiled up to the ceiling, which is quite low. Again, I've chosen the tiles I want. And I'd like the ceiling and other walls painted in the same colour as the tiles.Mr Brogan:You'll be needing a special water-proof paint for that. It might be difficult to match that exactly with the colour of the tiles.Mrs Wilson:Well, if you can get one as close to the colour as possible. I'd also like the floor tiled. I rather like the thought of terracotta tiles, they look so warm and natural.Mr Brogan:Oh, now they're difficult. You'd actually need a specialist for them, as they have to be waxed and waterproofed correctly. I think you should ask at the Natural Tile Shop on George Street about that.Mrs Wilson:Oh, right. I'll do that. Now, the dining room. There isn't much to be done, but I think the window frames need painting.Mr Brogan:White, is it?Mrs Wilson:Yes, I think white is best. I don't fancy these new coloured frames. I also want the walls to be papered. I have chosen a very pretty wallpaper, but you need to tell me how much to buy. The rolls are ten metres long.Mr Brogan:Mm...well, I'd say you'd need about ten rolls for this room...to be on the safe side. What about the ceiling?Mrs Wilson:Yes, I'd like the ceiling painted white. My ex-husband used to smoke a lot and you can see the nicotine stains on it.Mr Brogan:So it's window frames painted, walls papered and ceiling painted, right?Mrs Wilson:Yes, that's it. The sitting-room doesn't really need much, as it was decorated a few years ago. I think I'd just like the window frames and doors painted white.Mr Brogan:Oh yes, this is a lovely room, isn't it?Mrs Wilson:Yes, we've always been very happy here. It gets a lot of light through those two big windows. Now, there's just the bedrooms left.Mr Brogan:Right. Lead the way.Mrs Wilson:This is the main bedroom. I really hate this wallpaper and don't know quite why I've put up with it for so long. So, I'd like it stripped and I think I'd like the walls painted instead. I have my eye on a very nice lilac colour, which I think would suit this room.Mr Brogan:So, you want the paper stripped and the walls painted. Ceiling as well?Mrs Wilson:Yes, ceiling in white. And that's all here. The last one is the guest room. I'm sorry, it's in a bit of a mess at the moment. I tend to dump everything in here when I don't have guests. As you can see, it's a small room, but I really think it needs brightening up. It doesn't get much light.Mr Brogan:Yes, you really need a much lighter colour here, don't you?Mrs Wilson:I've chosen a pale yellow paper for this room. So if you could paper it, paint the ceiling white and the window frame, then I think that will be all.Mr Brogan:Right, paper the walls, paint the ceiling and the window frame.Mrs Wilson:So, that's the lot. I know that will be very much work for you.Mr Brogan:That's no problem, Mrs Wilson. Let me go round again and measure the rooms and I'll work out a quick estimate for you for the time and labour costs.

How to describe the household problems at the various ways? 生活中难免会碰到家装方面的问题,让我们先看看可能会出现哪些问题。看的同时,请留意不同的故障是怎么描述的。A: O dear, look... the bathroom floor is all wet. What's causing that, I wonder...B: Ah, look here under the hand-basin... the pipe is leaking... (水管漏水)A: You look flustered.B: I'm not surprised. I've had a terrible day. Our central heating system has stopped working. (供暖设备故障)A: O dear... this light is not working... and the one in the kitchen is not working either.B: Ah, so it's not the bulbs. (空调坏了) 在上面这些描述故障的用法中,has/have broken down, has/have stopped working ,isn't working properly,I'm having problems with... 和There's something wrong with...都属于通用的表达方式;而只有水和煤气才会leak。此外,只有家电故障才能用broken down。
