Time, One - Year Contract (with possibility of renewal)SALARY: $40,000 per Annum CLOSING DATE: December 2, 2011 @ 5:00 pm Organization & Program Description For Youth Initiative (FYI) is a non-profit, charitable organization operated by youth, for youth. FYI aims to encourage civic engagement and increase access to educational, recreational, economical and cultural opportunities for marginalized and at risk youth. Civic engagement, critical analysis, leadership, youth empowerment, skill building and community building are encouraged and incorporated in all programs and services at FYI.The community engagement stream is the face of the organization and it ensures that FYI has a strong multi-faceted presence within the communities we serve. The stream’s approach towards community engagement includes interacting with the: § The Social Community ? potential FYI membership; § The Donor Community ?individual and corporate donors; § The Service Provider Community ? youth services organizations, community organizations, councils and networks; and § The Volunteer Community ? placement students, community service orders, and mentors for youth. Position Summary To develop, implement, and provide ongoing coordination with the Power of One, For Youth Initiative’s Volunteer Engagement and Community Investment program. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the recruitment, assessment, and orientation of young professionals interested in volunteering and youth-led organizations who are seeking skilled volunteers for particular tasks. Through establishing connections between young professional volunteers and youth-led organizations, the incumbent will coordinate and implement activities that support: building capacity and infrastructure within youth-led organizations, leveraging in-kind services from volunteers and community partners, and increasing the amount of community investments provided to youth-led organizations. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the programs progress and reporting on its successes and challenges to funders and other stakeholders. Main Tasks & Responsibilities: Program Design & Coordination ? 40% § Develop pillars, goals and structure of the Power of One program. § Develop tools and resources necessary to coordinate the program, including but not limited to needs assessments, orientation packages, a database, and evaluation tools.§ Orient volunteers and youth-led organizations to roles, responsibilities, expectations, and procedures of the Power of One program.§ Monitor and evaluate progress made in youth-led organizations, as well as participant satisfaction with the program and the relationships developed.§ Complete internal and external reports as necessary to funders, supervisor, and other stakeholders.§ Make structural adjustments to the program as needed.Resource and Network Development ? 30% § Work with the Resource Development Officer to connect and build relationships with corporations, organizations, and / or small businesses who are interested in supporting the Power of One program through the provision of professional volunteers.§ Recruit and assess young professional volunteers interested in supporting youth-led organizations through developing their capacity and through providing a financial donation(s). § Through a variety of networking activities, match youth-led organizations to young professional volunteers based on needs and compatibility. Mentorship Support ? 30% § Recruit youth-led organizations to participate in Power of One program.§ Assess youth-led organizations to determine needs, goals, and specific requirements.§ Support the Agency Mentorship Coordinator with the development of partnerships and networks with the Agency Mentorship Program organizations. Required Qualifications:Must Have Skills: § The minimum level of education preferred is a community college diploma in human services and social studies related education (social work, social services work, community work, International development, etc). § Minimum of one year experience coordinating volunteers in a non-profit, community- based (local or international) program. Additional Skills: § Experience or education in communications, public relations and/or marketing would be an asset. § Knowledge of organizational capacity building and infrastructure development work.§ Experience with event planning and production.§ Experience with program evaluation and reporting. § Ability to clearly communicate community needs to a wide array of stakeholders. § Ability to provide leadership to volunteers and community based committees.§ Understands the youth-led social service sector and the challenges facing youth from ethnically diverse communities.§ Understands and utilizes an anti-oppression and anti-racist framework in all aspects of work.§ Able to work with minimal supervision.§ Good organizational and time-management skills and able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.§ Able to be an organizational “champion” who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative and organized.§ Experienced using database software such as Microsoft Access or Income Manager.§ Ability to adhere to and enforce the guidelines, policies and values of FYI.
