Scientists in Britain close to cracking chicken-egg puzzle
A file photo of a chicken and an egg. What came first, the chicken or the egg? Scientists in Britain think it was probably the chicken.
What came first, the chicken or the egg? Scientists in Britain think it was probably the chicken, after using new computer technology to try and crack the age-old riddle.
Researchers at the Universities of Sheffield and Warwick, in northern and central England, say the secret lies in the eggshell -- specifically the vital role played by a chicken protein in forming it.
Scientists already knew that the protein, ovocledidin-17 (OC-17), plays a part in eggshell formation, but the new technology allowed the team to demonstrate exactly how the protein makes it happen.
In a computer simulation, the OC-17 protein acted as a catalyst to kickstart the formation of crystals that make up an eggshell by clamping itself on to calcium carbonate particles.
The OC-17 protein then dropped off when the crystal nucleus was large enough to grow on its own, freeing up the protein to start the process again.
Eggshells are created when this happens many times over within a short period of time.
"Understanding how chickens make eggshells is fascinating in itself but can also give clues towards designing new materials and processes," said Professor John Harding from Sheffield University, one of the authors of the research.
"Nature has found innovative solutions that work for all kinds of problems in materials science and technology -- we can learn a lot from them," he added.

First egg, then chicken. That’s it.
It’ll totally freak me out if the chicken came first, you know, how weird it would be…aw….can you guys imagine that? C’mon, chicken is a little tiny fluffy thing that with eyes, ears, wings and legs, I really don’t think it could just come this way, I mean without an egg. However, it’s ok to an egg, how difficult do you think it could be to creat a round thing like that, huh….
That’s it, that’s it, that’s it……..

Forget the seven-year itch, the real test comes at TWELVE years
Seven-years has traditionally been the time when love and affection give way to disillusion and disappointment.
But couples who manage to survive the seven-year itch would be wise not to get complacent.
The biggest threat to modern marriages actually comes from the 12-year itch, research has revealed.
The majority of couples who divorce have now spent more than a decade together before going their separate ways.
And they are increasingly likely to cite 'growing apart' or 'falling out of love' as the cause of their split.
There has been a four-fold increase in couples breaking up for these reasons in the last two years, amid increasing financial strain on families.
But infidelity is still responsible for more than a quarter of divorces. The seven-year itch - or the theory that adultery becomes impossible to resist after seven years - got its name from the 1950s film starring Marilyn Monroe.
The study by the Grant Thornton accountancy group, which was based on a survey of 90 of the country's biggest family law firms, echoed figures released last year which showed that marriages are most likely to fall apart around the 12-year mark.
Sally Longworth, of Grant Thornton's Forensic and Investigation Services, said: 'This rather dispels the age-old myth about marriages failing after seven years.
'It is impossible to put any scientific reasoning on why certain marriages succeed and others fail.'

At least there is a marriage.
I don’t even think to have a BF at this age, uh…I am not getting younger any more, and what’s my problem!!!
It has nothing to do with marriage actually, marriage itself is pretty simple, and it never change. However, people change. I don’t know since when people just don’t get satisfied so easily, and since when we are so damn inspiring to pursue the happiness which seems we can never have.
I am not saying people who got divorced are out of mind or insane or something, in fact, I am totally understand, because that’s marriage, that’s a couple we are talking about, if we can’t get along with each other anymore, if we can’t make each other happy anymore, then why the hell do we still live together? Everything just makes no sense.
No matter when there is a marriage going to an end, woman will be the one to comfort, everybody just say you have kids, you are a woman, you’ll never find so good a man like him. Ask them all go to hell. We don’t have much time on this earth, you just think it over and make the decision yourself. To go or to stay, it’s your call, and the most important of all, it’s your life.
It’s your life!!! I hope everyone can remember this, it’s your life, no one NEVER EVER care about you more than yourself, if you do think so, then you’d better wake up or you’ll be so hurt one day.

Not woman, just girl.
Woman is physically weaker than man, but we are mentally as strong as man. Therefore we ask for equal right and position in marriage.Anyhow, it's an equal war between man and woman.

As Germany wilts in sweltering temperatures, a manager in a Berlin government office told his 260 sweating workers to go home, a newspaper reported Friday, undermining Germans' reputation for efficiency.
According to the BZ local tabloid, the boss of the Berlin office for tax evasion investigations sent an email to his employees saying: "Everyone should decide for themselves if they feel up to working in these temperatures."
"This decision should be taken before you pass out ... taking time off work today could in many cases be a wise decision which would have my full understanding," wrote Erik Schliephake in the email printed by BZ.
"With greetings bathed in sweat," the boss signed off the note.
The BZ carried the story on its front page with the headline: "Whoever sweats gets to go home."
Berliners have been baking in a seemingly relentless heatwave in recent weeks, with the mercury frequently soaring into the high 30s Celsius (high 90s Fahrenheit) and July on course to be the hottest on record.
