Yesterday,I talked with Harvey through MSN about the language which have been used in ads and exerted profound influence on our life.So I try to post this one to work as a brick in order to get more jades.

Marlboro Man(万宝路男人)A character in Marlboro cigarette company's advertising campaign from 1954 to 1999.The ads always showed a masculine cowboy alone in nature smoking a cigarette. The ads were originally conceived as a way to popularize filtered cigarettes,which at the time were considered feminine. The ads not only made Marlboro cigarettes popular worldwide but also helped create a lasting image of American masculinity. Miller was refered to as a Marlboro Man because of his strong image and the cigarette drooping from his mouth.

This reminds me about my university's time ,in my mind man should be like that image---Marlboro man,loving nature,carefree,strong-minded.But I have to say at that time they western countries have already realized the harm of the cigarettes but in order to reduce their lost of the industry of cigarettes ,they transfer their downmarket to Asian countries even now the impressiones by Marlboro Man are hard to remove.

The British Government is considering raising the age limit for buying cigarettes to 18 in an attempt to reduce the number of young smokers.The current age for legal smoking is 16.

I have to say I did smoke a few cigarattes in my university time but I never touch them scince my graduation.But the image of the "Marlboro Man" is still in my memory. A masculine cowboy on a horse in the wide. Maybe that is right the feeling the smokers want.And the ads is surely a very successful one.
