Job Description / Responsibilities • Participate in 24x7 on-call support for the company's production infrastructure. • Actively participate in the development and improvement of automation and monitoring systems. • Contribute to the selection and implementation of hardware, Operating Systems, and technical solutions to business problems with executive and upper management. • Perl/C programming to automate recurring system tasks is required. • Produce architecture and procedural documentation for internal and company-wide consumption. • Other duties as assigned Job Qualifications • Minimum 1 yrs experience operating in an ISP/Telecom grade high-availability network environment. • Minimum 2 yrs experience in operating a large-scale high-transaction high-availability web environment servicing millions of users. • Fundamental technical knowledge of the following system operating systems: Win2k, XP, NT4.0, Solaris 8, Linux (RedHat and Suse), and FreeBSD. • Ability to solve problems quickly and intelligently, as well as automate processes and jobs. • Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration; for example, configuration of Unix based mail systems, system installation and configuration, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software. • Has a solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), troubleshooting and understanding log and events. • Expertise with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS and NIS, NT domains; can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS; understands basic routing concepts. • Familiarity with Java, JSP, Jboss and Apache ? most have working experience of greater than 2yrs. • Proven ability to program in an administrative language (Tk, Perl, shell). • Ability and familiarity with mid-level debugging techniques and modification of C programs. • Must take ownership of issues and pursue resolutions to those issues tenaciously. • Exceptional customer service orientation. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management. • Must have own vehicle and able to travel to offsite data-center as needed. • Highly self-motivated and directed and keen attention to detail. • Ability to work on notice and on call, 24hr / 7day. • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language. • Ability to execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. • Ability to understand an organization’s goals and objectives quickly and broadly. • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. • No travel restrictions as travel may be required to Miami, Florida or Vienna, VA for operational support (10%). • College/University degree desired. • Cisco, EMC, and Sun certifications are a plus.
