Abbotsford市长Henry Braun说,苏马斯草原东部部分地区的水位仍在上升,因为地形特殊,之前这里是一片古老的湖床,就是碗的最低处,碗底。

除了把这里的水抽干没有其他办法,但是要抽干水需要几周的时间。
他曾经向总理及BC省政府官员表示,Abbotsford与洪水损毁相关的费用高达十亿元。
单单堤坝方面的开支在几年前估计已经要四亿元。市内同时有多座桥梁、天桥、道路以及涵洞需要进行评估。
另外目前在水浸地区有大约二万只牛,当中至少2000只已经死亡。

但是Braun补充说,当地预测今天会继续下雨,不过下星期降雨量会有100毫米,情况令他感到担心,有需要加快堤坝的维修工作。

BC省官员说,预料未来几日会证实有更多人在洪水泛滥中死亡。
现在为止证实有一人死亡,至少两个人失踪以及损失几千头牲畜,BC省农业生产商重创,冲毁的房屋和淹没土地无法估量。
省政府昨天宣布进入紧急状态十四日,可能会再延长。
而全国和全省已经行动起来守望相助,素里警察局今天派遣了10名警员前往救援
