九爱加拿大網報道：多倫多動物園今天在社交媒體宣布，一只瀕臨滅絕的小熊貓幼崽誕生了！

動物園表示這只小熊貓於 7 月 13 日（星期三）下午 4:11出生。這是該動物園25年來第三只出生的小熊貓，也是4歲小熊貓媽媽紅辣椒粉（Paprika）的第一只幼崽。

2021年11月19日的時候，多倫多動物園宣布，一只四歲的雌性小熊貓Paprika從埃德蒙頓谷動物園搬遷過來，將與雄性小熊貓蘇瓦（Suva）配對。
動物園表示2015年4月，小熊貓的保護狀態被提升為瀕危。在在野外研究小熊貓非常具有挑戰性，據估計，目前小熊貓的數量在2500只到1萬只之間。在過去 20 年中，該物種的數量減少了多達 50%。
動物園表示紅辣椒粉目前已經足夠適應，可以短時間離開巢箱，因此工作人員有機會評估幼崽的健康狀況，並判斷出新出生的小熊貓為雄性。
動物園說：“當她與幼崽暫時分開時，紅辣椒粉非常平靜，她會趁機伸展身體並梳理自己，然後返回巢箱洗澡和照顧她的幼崽”。

目前，紅辣椒粉和她的幼崽將繼續留在動物園的私人區域，以便讓幼崽可以繼續長大，直到它們准備好被游客公開觀看。
