To contact overseas agents, whom you know well or not, is an important part of what my work is like and I would spend time sending emails to exporters at home. Most of the time what I wrote about our company remain dead letters and that makes me discouraged,admittedly.Things do not always get that negative. This afternoon when googling the info of a company, I found this piece of news helpful: after the earthquake that devastated Japan, the demand of textiles will be on the rise. The judgement by some professionals is based on past experiences and statistics. According to them, the Japanese is a credible nation which means they would less likely cancel orders made before the earthquake. While in the meantime it's possible that some Chinese factories will offer to reduce orders so as to relieve the pressure of their Japanese biz partners.
Good news for us. We took a biz trip to quite a few textile factories in Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces last May and June and got lots of first-hand info. Those people we contacted were pessimistic about the export of textile,which was quite understandable. Generally the gloomy outlook they hold all attributed to the unpredictable policies, say, export rebates. All in all, the textile industry is highly-polluting and this has always been a headache for the government.
I suppose textile products have long been a big part of their biz for many international forwarders. It might not be a good choice to entirely give it up. The world is impermanent and the government policies are no exception.
