水尺检量是一种利用装卸前后水尺的变化计算。它是散货计量最常见的方法。
水尺计重工作是通过在装船前和装船后或卸货前和卸货后，分别测定前后两次的船舶吃水，并测定前后两次的船用淡水、压舱水及燃油的贮存量或消耗量，同时前后两次测定船边港水密度，然后按照船方提供的排水量表或载重量表以及有关的静水力曲线图表、水油舱计量表校正表等船用图表计算船舶载运货物的重量。
