Hello everybody. Happy the Easter DayMy name is Mark coming from Henan province, China, where the government doesn't care about English, not to mention spoken English. This had a really bad effect on me when college cause my major is international Economy and Trade. Most of my classmates, their spoken English is so good and i'm embrassed once speaking. But now the situation has completely changed.
I'm working in Kenya right now doing foreign trade, and always I need to develop clients. Almost here English is my daily language. It's pretty easy and funny to communicate with them, to know their culture, their people and their food, etc.
Maybe you are just like who i was, or maybe your English is better than me already. Anyway, I like to share my ways of learning English here, to communicate with more people. On the one hand, you can try my way and give me some comments; on the other hand, I also can learn from you so that i can improve myself. A win-win game, right

1/ Interest.
1.1 Best teacher.
As you know, interest is the best teacher. If you have interest in one thing, including English, you always have ways to improve it and finally are professional.
When i was in high school, even though they don't care about the listening and spoken English, we do take part in college entrance examination, so we pay more attention to writing. My performance is pretty good and all my English teachers were fond of me, which made me like English better. And this is where my interest comes from. Maybe you also can call it confidence.
So do you have interest in learning English? Or you have but you can not find ways to improve it? Even though you don't have interest, if necessary, you still can create interest in it.

1.2 Motivation
If you want to finish one thing, you need to have power. Interest is the best motivation. Why could i say so? Cause this is a way you can imporve youself, meanwhile you don't feel so much pain.
When you have interest, you'll focus on it and don't care about others so much.
For example, when at colleague, i studied my spoken English from correcting my wrong English. It was a really a miserable process cause you don't learn English from zero, but you learn it from the minus. How horrible! But because i have interest, everything is getting easy.
First, I relearned the phonetic symbol with the help of my classmates and my teacher, which costed me almost one month(i also have many other courses meanwhile). Painful process, good result. I know what i pronounced will be right.
It's the interest who helps me insist on it and go ahead.

1.3 Persistence
Spoken English is not so easy for Chinese to learn. It costs time and effort. It needs persistence.
There will be many difficulties and excuses in the process, just like no environment, no partner, no good teachers, forgetting vocabulary soon, don't have foreigh friends, have no time, have no interest as time goes by, etc.
When i was at college, after studying the phonetic symbols (which is the basic thing just like pinyin if you want to learn Chinese), i start to relearn vocabulary, especially how to read them. And then i learn some books like NEW CONCEPT ENGLISH one, tow and three, together with mp3. Even though i type these 3 books just using 3 seconds, i learned them using about 300 days. I know who has done this will understand that easily.
No matter it's hot or cold, sunny or rainy, in a good mood or a bad one, just you or have other friends, busy or free, i just went to the coast of our school lake and read them. Of course i need to prepare the files before and review them after the reading many times.
How could i persist with it? Interest. I know my goal and i need English to help me go further on my career. Also I like foreigh culture; only i learn more English, i got more chances to know more foreigners and to improve myself. So sometimes your goal is also the reason why you have interest.

1.4 source of your ways.
If you really have interest, you can always find ways to improve it whatever difficulties you face.And always you can find so many ways that it's just beyond your imagination. And as time goes by, you'll find English can also help you make friends, expand your horizon and lead you to another world.
Fox example, i wanted to learn phonetic symbols but i didn't know how to start it when freshman from some village. Then I asked the students whose spoken English is so good. Then they recommended me some softward and also helped me to revise my pronunciation. Meanwhile, i used the internet and asked my teacher for help.
As time went by, i learned more vocabulary. Then i started to learned some systemic files or books. From NEW CONCEPT ENGLISH ONE/ TWO/THREE to CRAZY ENGLISH ONE/TWO/THRER/FOUR. Meanwhile, I took part in the English corner, and the contest of English speech. I was a volunteer to help overseas students to travel. Once i met some foreigners i'll speak to them. And also i would try my best to practice them every day almost 30 minutes. And i would write in English and sing English songs etc. I remember i asked many English teachers directly how to improve spoken English. It's pretty cool and useful.
What i want to say here is you should take your initiative to learn it. If you have interest, you'll find there are so many ways and friends waiting for you ahead of your way.
So everybody, what are you waiting for? Just start.

2/ How to get your interest of learning English
2.1 Passive
Why do you want to learn English? There must be a reason.
Maybe somebody's major is English or there is English in their courses, or maybe they need to use it when work. Whatever, there's a reason.
Some people maybe think English is interesting, but they change their mind after learning for a while, especially these students who was taught by college teachers. As time goes by, they have no feeling on English. Later, they just hate it. But as a student, you have to pass your test, so you also have to learn it.
It is pretty passive, and the same situation goes for some workers. The same sense. This style has a really bad effect on learning English. Cause for you it is pretty painful. There is no happiness at all but you still need to do it.
Maybe you can pass your test, but i have to say it's really difficult for you to really imporve your English skill. Passive interest just make you hate English, which is worse than no feeling.
But i think there's a way to solve this problem. That is to use as many ways as possible to try, to check whether you prefer some ways. Most of the case, they hate just because they don't find the right ways or they're just using the wrong ways.
I was one of them before. How about you? Are you this style?
