Abbotsford市長Henry Braun說,蘇馬斯草原東部部分地區的水位仍在上升,因為地形特殊,之前這裡是一片古老的湖床,就是碗的最低處,碗底。

除了把這裡的水抽幹沒有其他辦法,但是要抽幹水需要幾周的時間。
他曾經向總理及BC省政府官員表示,Abbotsford與洪水損毀相關的費用高達十億元。
單單堤壩方面的開支在幾年前估計已經要四億元。市內同時有多座橋梁、天橋、道路以及涵洞需要進行評估。
另外目前在水浸地區有大約二萬只牛,當中至少2000只已經死亡。

但是Braun補充說,當地預測今天會繼續下雨,不過下星期降雨量會有100毫米,情況令他感到擔心,有需要加快堤壩的維修工作。

BC省官員說,預料未來幾日會證實有更多人在洪水泛濫中死亡。
現在為止證實有一人死亡,至少兩個人失蹤以及損失幾千頭牲畜,BC省農業生產商重創,沖毀的房屋和淹沒土地無法估量。
省政府昨天宣布進入緊急狀態十四日,可能會再延長。
而全國和全省已經行動起來守望相助,素裡警察局今天派遣了10名警員前往救援
